WEDDING FEATURE

An Old Monastery Wedding and Film Vibes: Captured by Dias de Vino y Rosas

The Photographers POV, featured on lensel.com

Where else can you get actually commentary from photographers about HOW THEY SHOOT A WEDDING ⬇️

“Janneke and Vincent walked out of the church through a corridor of guests. The space was tight, and the walk itself was quick, just a few seconds. I immediately decided to go for a wide frame and include the guests’ hands tossing petals, rather than zooming in for a cleaner, more traditional shot.”

THE BIG IDEA

🥣 The Mix Era: Style isn't dead. But the style box might be.

The concept of ‘style boxes’ dominated wedding photography for a long time.

The fine art, bright and airy look.
Pure documentary.
The dark and moody adventure vibe.
Art directed editorial…

But photographers today are mixing things up more than ever. And there's a reason for it.

*But before you read further, we aren’t saying styles are done. We’re saying this is a reminder for photographers to think beyond just reproducing a certain aesthetic and to see their voice and perspective through a wider range of photographic technics.

Here's what is going on….

*The rest of this piece including what The Mix Era means for how you shoot and how you market yourself is for Lensel PRO members.

JUNE WORKSHOP

Posing & Direction with BUSHWHACKED

How to heck do you get those perfect candid looking photos? Well, the trick is, it’s not really candid. It takes what we call “INVISIBLE DIRECTION”

It’s the art of making it feel candid, but keeping it curated. In the moment, yet completely intentional.

And in this workshop, Rachel from Bushwhacked will break down her “Invisible Direction” process. You’ll learn about:

  • Building the frame then letting real moments fall into it

  • Adjusting one person to shift the energy of a whole scene

  • Keeping energy alive while still getting exactly the shot you want

  • Still using light as the entry point for every decision

  • How to control but not control a room

  • The subtle posing prompts that always work

You’ll learn practical tips, tricks and ways of thinking that will elevate your posing and directing game.

INSPO TO KEEP YOU FRESH

⬇️ PRO member Rob James had this full sun beach wedding featured in VOGUE this week. Posting in Lensel PRO he said:

This wedding was one of those days that was incredibly fun to be part of, but also genuinely challenging to shoot. The entire celebration was centred around a single stretch of beach, with minimal styling and some pretty unforgiving Antiguan sun. I left feeling okay about the images, but honestly, I didn’t think it was my best work.

A few weeks later, the bride approached me about pitching the wedding to Vogue. I remember gently trying to manage expectations, thinking that while it was a beautiful celebration, it maybe didn’t tick all the traditional boxes the publication looks for stylistically.

Short version is I got proven wrong.

And I guess what I’m saying is go for the pitch being objective is great but being overly self critical can sometimes stop you from taking the leap, and you never really know how your work will resonate with other people until you put it out there.”
