NEWS AND INSPO

Happening this Week

  • Imagen x Pictime. AI culling and editing tool Imagen announced a partnership with Pic-Time allowing you to seemlessly go from editing to publishing.

  • Videographers Perspective 2024. One of THE breakout talents in the wedding video space this year, Plus Two Films, shared this inspiring year in review video. Definitely worth your watch.

  • Christmas gifts from JHK. A well curated gift guide for the discerning photographer by the portrait legend James Harvey Kelly.

  • New portrait booth business boom. Offset portraits launched this week, with another fresh take on the traditional photobooth at weddings. Dive into see if this is an addition that might work in your business.

  • This years hidden film gem. The Pentax 17 was released earlier this year to mixed reviews and then relative silence. But the half frame film camera needs to be known by wedding photographers snapping casual film shots at weddings. 74 shots to a roll is a gamechanger if you can live with the lower resolution. This is well considered review - even if we disagree.

  • Apple killed the photo app. The redesign of the photos app in iOS 18 is VERY controversial. With many users just hating the changes. If you too have been frustrated by them, jump through this walk through to see everything they have changed, and how you can make the most of it.

  • HASTINGS AND KING in the LIVE LOUNGE. Tomorrow at 5.30pm (CET) we have the amazing Hastings and King in the live lounge. Entitled “Manipulating Light”, we will dive into how they create their unique, fresh and challenging images. See the events page inside Lensel PRO here.

🎨 Pantone’s Colour Miss

A swing and a miss
Pantone’s rise to become the colour authority to the world is a story all to itself. But we are here today to look into their most recent prediction, the colour of 2025. “Mocha Mousse.” A hot take in short - it’s a bland, banal choice that’s giving no more than a subtle update to millennial grey.

Our current colour climate is seeing so much MORE. A CPG/snack scene defined by bright, bold colours. Lux brands diving into rich hue of burgundy, dark navy and dark green. As one commentator coined the aesthetic ‘Martini Noir‘. Paint brands may know better with this burgundy by Behr. Yes, we saw a lot of deep brown in 2024. But a mocha mousse just smells off.

In our wedding world, Wed Vibes latest color predictions showed us some bold reds, blues, greens and purples. The WED’s feed is dominated by reds, complimentary pinks and bold greens.

Lensel’s take? We will only see more of red. But make it velvet.

The ‘Martini Noir’ aesthetic of many ‘lux’ brands right now

Why does this matter?
Yeah wedding photographers aren’t choosing the colours and themes of weddings. Or are they? As a leading photographer in the wedding space, many couples follow your work, aesthetic and vibe. You can make colour choices that are going to influence your couples, and influence couples to book you as they see you as someone of the cutting edge of what’s ‘good’ in weddings. Here’s where you can show that off:

  • Style shoots and personal projects. Be forward, bold, and on point with your colour choices when you do these.

  • Your website and instagram feed aesthetics. Pull together your colours well and plan your feed in a way to give certain colour aesthetics. Again, The Wed are masters of this. Take notes.

  • Please let’s rethink ‘Mocha Mousse’….

🛠️ Live Workshop with KOKO King - Replay Available.

KOKO King dove deep into her techniques and ideas that make her stand out.
Every month with Lensel PRO we host a Live Workshop (replays always available). This week we had Robert and Kareena from Hasting and King talk us through the techniques and ideas behind their inspiring and unique photographer. Like, how do they do this on a wedding day??! We dove into:

  • Their philosophy on creating ‘visual interest’ and exactly how they do it - including the gear they use.

  • How to notice people well at a wedding and respond to them better

  • How they developed their style by focussing on replicating accidents

  • How to put more of yourself into a wedding and into images

You can access the workshop now inside Lensel PRO.
