NEWS
Happening this Week
Newly Represented? This week saw the launch of Luago Agency. A new agency representing some of the best wedding photographers and videographers in the luxury space. Managing their leads, emails, bookings, communications, everything, so the artists can do what they do best. Will we see more of these agencies in weddings the near future? Check out Luago Agency here.
Film scanning you can do at home. German company ‘Filmomat’ just released their new home film scanner which makes it easier than ever. See it in action here.
What makes the best the best? Joel & Justyna. This interview with wedding legends Joel & Justyna dives into what drives their unique style and ethos. It’s an inside word into what it takes to get to the top.
Jupiter Images. NASA released some all new images of Jupiter this week and they are literally, figuratively, everything, out of this world.
New tiny RODE mics. For those making content on a wedding day too, this new mic from Rode, announced yesterday, is so much more tiny and discreet than what we have seen before. WIN.
Lab scans vs Home scans. Which film scans do you like better? And is your lab doing you right? This thread went wild after this photographer compared the two.
Disposable 2.0. Flashback is a disposable camera start up that just raised $330k on Australia’s Shark Tank. Novel. Cool. And the branding? Amazing. Read all about it here.
CREATIVITY
3️⃣ Twists to shape your photos

“Odd things” Images by mrdjalovers and daniloandsharon
Let’s be honest.
Most creativity is not making something completely new. It’s just putting a twist on something already great. YOUR twist. So here are 3 ways of thinking to help get you started, ready for your twist.
Put odd things together.
The fancy word is juxtaposition. Putting two things together to make a contrast, to make something different. Jewellery photographed with food, is one we have seen a lot recently. Two different ideas together - a classic juxtaposition. We love it! A barefoot groom in the sand? YES.
Jewellery brand HEAVEN MAYHEM recently released a new product, the ‘Book Box’ which looks just like a coffee book, but its actually their new jewellery box. Two different things, smashed together. And they made something unique and new.
This is a simple way of thinking you can take and think about next time you turn up to an uninspiring hotel room on a wedding day. Take two things and twist it

2️⃣ Embrace the chaotic
We spoke in this reel about the shifting generational tides in wedding photography as Gen Z starts to get married. We noted the shift towards an aesthetic of chaos (has links to ‘maximalism’ trends) that is trying to get away from images that feel too serious, sincere and impersonal - out of touch with a world that Gen Z experiences as chaotic anyway. For weddings, it’s showing something real, in a chaotic way. The late night, messy reception table shots, or guest shots that aren’t candid but are ‘in your face’, the portraits that show the behind the scenes too.

“Maxxing Out”: Images by marcijus_studio
3️⃣ Max out one concept
As photographers it’s our job to often connect the dots on a wedding day. To find the threads of style, colour, and feeling and curate them together to make it something more. It’s your job to ‘max’ out on that style or concept. Maybe the venue has a minimal feel to it, max out on that and shoot minimal textures, details, guest shots, portraits in a minimal. Like this example here from Marcijus Studio. Maybe it’s a colour, like that one ‘red wedding’ shot by Ha Nguyen in Vietnam. Maybe it’s a style of shooting, like flash or documentary… Don’t try and do it all and water everything down by mixing too many styles. Stick with one. Max out one concept.
Think about it. Take it. And twist it.
