NEWS
Happening this week
The myth of timeless. Claire Parker destroys the word timeless and maybe it’s what all wedding photographers need to hear.
More Mini Flashes. Godox announced this week their new IT20/22 flashes. Tiny tiny but maybe just enough for what you need.
Link in bio is fine. You know the rumour about ‘Link in Bio’ captions ruining reach? Apparently not true at all. Instagram CEO explain it all here.
Canon Firmware re-re-released. Canon R5 mkii and R1 users can now confidently upgrade their firmware after Canon fixed numerous bugs. Notable upgrades for wedding photographers are in the Servo autofocus settings.
Martin Parr. Get behind the scene in this little video from a Martin Parr photo shoot. And yes, it’s all chaos.
THE BIG IDEA
🎈Celebration over Cynicism: Why being a wedding photographer is amazing

Let’s get honest.
It’s SO easy to complain about being a wedding photographer.
You’re halfway through the season and already COOKED. Swamped with another 12000 image cull. Your back hurts (just us?) with another 14 hour day upcoming. Vague edit requests sitting in your inbox. That last couple still hasn’t paid because their dad doesn’t think you aren’t worth what you charge, and this one couple is way too excited about their super original champagne tower idea…
Talk to another photographer and it’s the same vibe:
Burnt out. Over it. Apparently it’s just all too repetitive. Chaotic. Awkward.
Yeah…it’s easy to get cynical about this job. But here’s the thing:
Wedding photography is better, more respected, and more important than ever.
AND it’s time to stop, celebrate and realise what this really is: The greatest job in the world.

Finally some respect.
Yeah there was a time when wedding photography was looked down on. It was seen as second-tier. Something you did if you couldn’t make it in commercial or editorial. Photographers often ashamed to admit they shot weddings.
It’s just events. Not art. Not “real” photography. But not anymore.
There’s a respect in the air. A quiet nod if you will.
Wedding photographers are out there building big careers and commanding BIG rates. Full on international glory. It’s also impossible not to see that some of the most iconic work in photography right now is coming from weddings. It’s all over social media. And becoming used and valued more than many other forms of photography. Red carpet what?
Why is this happening?
Well weddings are becoming a bigger and bigger part of culture. In a world where we’ve stripped away so many traditions, the wedding is one of the last big, meaningful rituals we still hold onto. So naturally the wedding photographer is more highly valued and celebrated.
PLUS throw in the social media revolution… and you’ve got yourself a recipe for wedding photographers being some hot hot property.

So now you know your important.
If that wasn’t enough to get you out of your cynicism and starting to celebrate wedding photography, then here’s a longer list of reasons WHY wedding photography is the greatest job.
You’re always surrounded by beauty.
Every weekend, you get a front row seat to what is hopefully a super happy, super beautiful day. Wild how we forget this.
Your work lasts.
You are making history. Family heirlooms. Things for grand grand kids. What you make will still matter decades from now.
It takes you places
Weddings happen in amazing places. And you get to go. Pretty nice.
You control your lifestyle.
You are on your own clock. Wanna sleep in?? You can! Your schedule. Your rates. Your goals. You decide how much you work and you define success looks like. Not many others can say this.
You’re building your own thing.
No one else did this for you. This is your career, and your not waiting for some promotion. Not reliant on anyone else but yourself.
You get to shoot something real
It’s real emotions, real moments. Not actors or models. You get to capture actual human feeling, not fake ones. And this will only get more important in our inevitable AI world.
No two weddings are the same.
You never really know what you're walking into. And that’s always a challenge. New people. New light. New chaos. That keeps you sharp and keeps it interesting.
You learn to handle pressure like a pro.
Timeline’s off. The light’s hard. People are stressed. And you still deliver something beautiful. That kind of instinct? It transfers to everything.
You actually make something
It’s not pushing paper or filing reports. It’s making something that didn’t exist before exist. Yes it’s a moment that happens. But your view of it is unique and that is what counts.
That’s the reminder.
There’s lot of tired, burnt out photographers talking DOWN on the industry.
BUT, you are an artist in one of the most meaningful, dynamic, creative spaces left in photography.
And that’s worth celebrating.
WEDDING FEATURE
Loose Edition Perfection at this Swedish Wedding: Captured by Bushwacked
We feature this incredibly beautiful wedding, but from the photographers POV.
+ this one has a different twist!
“Since the groom doesn’t show his face online, this wedding presented an engaging challenge. The bride wanted to be able to share some images while having the majority as personal treasures. I found myself in each moment stepping to the left or right after I got the main shot and candidly capturing the groom from more of a profile angle. As someone who’s been shooting weddings for 16 years, I love being presented with engaging challenges to maneuver the day.”
