NEWS
Happening this Week
Le Lien Journal. A new quarterly magazine to feed your soul. Produced by The Wedding Artist Co (managing some of the most iconic wedding photographers around) was announced this week. First issue is now available to read here.
Sigma’s new impossible. Today Sigma announced a new 50-120mm 2.8 - which is an interesting, potentially quite wedding useful new focal range. BUT the real magic is in how tiny and light it is. You gotta see it to believe it. btw it’s beautiful too.
New Preset Week. We are reluctant to ever link presets. If we do, they gotta be good. This week we saw two releases worth pointing you to. (IF new presets are a thing you are into).
1. Lukas Korynta with a range of film emulation presets that look SO GOOD. We especially love the Frontier inspired presets. Details here.2. Kelly Brown with her Signature tones in her preset pack released with DVLOP. Ummm Kelly Brown’s tones are just too nice… Details here.
Get 100 rolls of Film. The Carmencita Film Grant is open for another year. Details and application can be found here.
Literally saving the day. What would you do in this rainy wedding situation? Would you keep taking photos or would you help?
Carousel Update. Instagram added a carousel editor to their Edits app to allow users to create new custom photo and video carousels and the options are verrrry nice.
$1.7 Million for not delivering wedding photos. That’s the final verdict this week against this wedding photographer. A case that has spanned most of the year. Wild what can happen even in our industry.

Photographers are obsessed right now with the portraits.
And yes we know. It goes….
BOOKS YOU NEED
From Photographer to Author: Jai Long’s new new

Of course you already know Jai.
From his podcast, his photography, and of course his business course that changed the game for SO many wedding photographers… he’s a legend in these parts. You’ve all seen something of his inspiring and crazy story.
And now? He’s gone from wedding photographer all the way to author. With his new book on pre-sale right now titled: Make Your Break.
Make Your Break is a practical guide to creating opportunities instead of waiting for them. Just cruising wedding to wedding? Through powerful stories, mindset shifts and practical frameworks, Jai challenges the beliefs that quietly keep us playing small.
We asked him three quick questions about his story and his new book:
1. When did wedding photography become the starting point for something MORE?
“I could see so many talented photographers undervaluing their work and struggling to get bookings. Incredible at photography, but nobody had taught them how to run a business. In 2015 I launched my first workshop and I saw the impact I could have helping wedding photographers push themselves.
Seeing what people could do once they started backing themselves became just as exciting to me as photography.”
2. What did shooting weddings teach you that you still use today?
“For me, it’s the people skills. You learn how to calm someone down, walk into an emotionally charged room and make people feel comfortable. In every business I’ve started I draw on the same skills I used with a nervous couple. Every business, at all levels, needs those people skills ”
3. What’s one idea from your new book “Make Your Break” you wish you’d understood sooner?
“Audacity. I would have trusted my ideas sooner, instead of checking whether everyone else thought it was a good idea first. That’s what I want photographers to feel when they read the book: excited about what they could create, and willing to actually give it a go.
So this book may just be the dose of inspiration you need. Pre orders are open now ⬇
FEATURED WEDDING
Moodboarding is not a shot list: A NYC Wedding by Kyla Jeanette
The right way.
Kyla Jeanette built her moodboard for this wedding from fashion campaigns, architecture, and other imagery far outside the wedding world. Not to recreate specific photos, but to construct a loose visual world for the weekend.
Giving a little more freedom to respond to moments on the day, within that larger moodboarded plan. YES, the right way.
