THE BIG IDEA
⁉️ Flash is Back (Again): Dua Lipa’s Wedding Photo Breakdown

Images: davidsimsofficial
It was three loooong weeks before anyone got a glimpse of Dua Lipa and Callum Turners wedding photos. Hotly, more like SCORCHINGLY anticipated.
So after that long wait, what is the verdict?
Do we love the photos? Does it matter? And what does it tell us about wedding photography this year?
The first point of interest is that it was fashion photographer David Sims who captured the day. Interesting that SO many ‘fashion photographers’ are now shooting weddings… WEDDINGS ARE HOT right now. So friend you were right all along. Wedding photography is officially cool.
It’s fascinating to see the difference between their normal fashion work, and what they produce on a wedding day. What they can do in an uncontrolled, spontaneous environment.
Here’s Dua and Callum’s photographer davidsimsofficial fashion portfolio vibe..
Now to the wedding photos. Are we wowed? Yes and No. Of course they are cool. It’s Dua Lipa. The fashion is immaculate. The energy is loose, sexy, A VIBE. Every image has that personality that hits the sweet spot between a real expression and a knowing pose.
In that sense, these photos were always going to be ‘cool’.
But are they next level iconic like we might have expected?
We’re saying a soft no.
BUT WE THINK THAT’S ACTUALLY THE POINT.
Here’s what we are seeing in the photos ⬇️

Direct Flash is not over.
We know many photographers have been shying away from the direct flash look this year. Feeling like it was all getting too popular and over done. Everyone got on the bandwagon.
But these images put the flash vibe directly back into the centre of wedding culture again.
Direct flash used throughout the day to just make the light work in the full Sicilian sun, and indoors in the shade. It brings that relaxed, carefree feel to the images - in contrast to the high fashion and strong posing.
It’s done in a relaxed, casual way that says - WHO CARES what the light is like, let me just use my flash. And it’s still a vibe for 2026.

Not perfect, not clean.
To add to the relaxed, effortless feeling, you’ll notice none of the images are too perfect. Not quite centred. Shot in questionable light. Lines not straight. Bad lens flares. Annoying small things are not removed from the ground.
It gives chill. It gives ‘I’m not trying too hard’
BUT we aren’t sure.
Wouldn’t this shot below just be so much better with the ground cleaned up?? A quick round of generative fill… Or a little bit of extra thought to the placement of the statue behind her head?? Come on ⬇️

That veil shot.
There’s a certain cool in leaning back into a few of the classic, traditional wedding photo ideas. + now that this shot was everywhere the last week we are sure there will be surge in requests for ‘a shot under the veil’.
We are here for it.
Maybe the best wedding photos and trends are not really new ideas at all. They are old rituals and old images, brought back with enough confidence to feel like they belong to this exact moment.
Just like this.
Groundbreaking?
No. Influential. Yes.

How Ale Bigliazzi Captured this Luxury Parisian Wedding Differently

Wedding Captured by Ale Bigliazzi
See how this wedding was captured at Lensel.com this week
This wedding was all set up from some classic luxury coverage. Could have been easy to turn up, take the more obvious photos, and call it a day.
Instead, Ale Bigliazzi and team pushed for more. WE LOVE THAT. Changing up techniques with direct flash, natural low light, backlight, wide perspectives, and a fashion-leaning edit that gives the gallery a fresh edge.
“From the very beginning, our mission was to move away from the obvious and capture something more poetic and spontaneous. Instead of creating staged scenes, we chose to be mostly silent observers but always ‘there’”
