The new Jacquemus wedding collection, “LE MARIAGE” broke the internet this week.

And like you, we are so into this. Why?

Well, to go back a step, it’s because generally weddings are a bit behind the times. Often slow on fashion, styling, and even dare we say it, photography. I mean, we are still seeing orange skin tones and tree stump centrepieces…

So, we are excited about Jacquemus x Weddings because is a signal that the worlds of influential fashion and weddings are circling ever closer together. Closing the lag and time delay we normally see before weddings catch up. Moving us photographers from trend followers (re-creating work popular in fashion a few years ago) to culture makers and into the fresh exciting territory of the wider world of photography. So, it’s time to join the conversation of more of the leading brands in the world and analyse, critique, push, and be inspired by their photography.

So what are we seeing photography-wise in this Jacquemus campaign? Let's dive in:

⬆️ Editorial but with a twist

We are contrasting strong poses with moments of humour or something out of the ordinary. It's produced and perfect, but with a twist to it.

⬆️ We are not afraid to leave horizons titled

This is a controversial one, but this vibe is on the rise right now and we see it here! Blatantly leaving a horizon titled. See our Instagram reel about titled images here.

⬆️ We are embracing chaos

It's produced, but we are in the moment. Focussing on the funny, sometimes chaotic things that happen at weddings. Notice the different layers and story here.

⬆️ Classic shots like family photos

But with a twist! The humour, the story. There's a new focus on documentary and bringing that into an editorial is just so cool. Take notes.

⬆️ Direct Flash

We are seeing the use of direct flash. Reminiscent of the 90s fashion era of casual in the moment, and flash in your face photography.

⬆️ Bold, Filmy Colors

There's no beige minimalism here. It's a focus on a colour pop. And of course the smooth tones of film that we never could quite replicate...

⬆️ Off Beat Moments

There's a focus and seeking of off beat moments that are just not quite normal. Like this guest running late. Or the veil/pasta contrast.

And yes, while we don't often have models to shoot on a wedding, and while this was style and produced shoot, you can take away some of the principles and thoughts behind the images. The techniques and ways of thinking. And maybe change up your own wedding photography game.
